Flexible Spending Accounts

A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) – provided by Employee Benefits Corporation – lets you pay health care and dependent care expenses via deduction from your paychecks before taxes. It’s a great way to lay your healthcare contributions aside and save taxes.

Plan Information

The district's Flexible Spending Accounts are administered by Employee Benefits Corporation (EBC).

  • Each year you participate in the FSA, you must elect your amount you want to contribute to the account.
  • Your Annual Maximum Contribution is $3,050 (for 2024).
  • Eligible expenses under the Healthcare FSA include medical, dental, and vision expenses for yourself, your spouse or your dependent children.
  • Contributions will be deducted from your paychecks in equal installments throughout the year and deposited into your accounts.
  • See a list of Eligible Expenses examples and types of products and services that are considered eligible expenses.

  • Upon enrollment in the Healthcare FSA you get a Benefits Card, which is a debit MasterCard that debits your FSA when you use it to pay for eligible health care expenses.
  • Please be aware that some uses of the Benefits Card will require itemized expense documentation to be submitted in order to verify the transaction.

The purpose of the Dependent Care FSA is to help you and your spouse to work or attend school full time.

For spouses and families, a Dependent Care FSA includes eligible expenses for services such as day care, babysitters, most day camps, and caregivers for dependent children under age 13 and disabled dependents.

FSAs offer sizeable tax advantages, however there are some strict limitations.

  • The IRS has a strict "use it or lost it rule": If you do not use the full amount in your FSAs by the end of the plan year, you will lose any remaining funds. EXCEPTION: Our plan has what is called a grace period. The grace period allows employees an additional 2 1/2 months in which to incur claims against the prior plan year.
  • All claims must be submitted within 90 days of the end of the plan year.
  • In the event of employment termination or unpaid leave, claims must be submitted within 90 days of termination date of first day of unpaid leave.
  • Once you enroll in the FSAs, you cannot change your contribution amount during the year unless you experience a qualified status change.
  • You cannot transfer funds from one FSA to another.
