General Questions

DegreeWorks is available through My Portal which can also be accessed from the Mission College or West Valley College websites.  If you are not able to access DegreeWorks, submit the appropriate form:

No. You register for classes within "My Web Services", found in My Portal.

No. DegreeWorks does not provide an official evaluation. All degree requirements need to be verified by a counselor and each student is responsible for complying with all academic policies published in the Mission or West Valley catalogs. Students must follow the catalog from their home campus. Additionally, DegreeWorks does not provide any information regarding the courses required to transfer to a 4-year college/university should that be your educational goal.

Yes. DegreeWorks is accessed through your secure “My Portal” login. Your counselor and authorized staff will be able to view your information.

To change your Program of Study or add additional programs to your record, you must complete a Mission College Program of Study/Major Change Request Form or a West Valley Change of Major Form. Before changing your program, it is strongly recommended that you meet with a Counselor, or your program office, to ensure the change will not negatively impact any benefits you receive.

NOTE: If you are receiving financial aid, or if you are part of a special program (EOPS, TRiO, DESP, DSPS, CalWorks, Veterans, etc.), you should meet with your program counselor before making any changes to ensure the change will not affect any benefits you receive.

Courses and exams from other colleges may not be displayed in DegreeWorks. Meet with a counselor to review your external transcripts.

Academic Audit

The Academic Audit contains your degree or certificate audit, which can help you monitor your progress towards completion of your program of study (major).  The audit shows which course requirements have been met, which are in-progress, and which you still need to complete.

No.  Your Audit is a tool that provides you with academic information related to your program of study.  It displays courses required and completed in your program of study. Your transcript is your official college record and provides a chronological list of courses that are completed and in-progress, along with other academic information.  Official transcripts can be requested through the Admissions & Records Office from your home campus. Your unofficial transcript is available through “My Portal”.

Press the print icon in the top right corner of the DegreeWorks home page. This will open a new window with your Academic or What-If Audit, which you can then save as a PDF and/or print.

Yes. DegreeWorks will count courses completed at both campuses toward your program(s) and GE requirements.

This error could occur if your catalog year is incorrect. Contact a counselor or submit a DW Help request Form:
In the meantime, you may use the What-If feature to review more current degree/certificate requirements.

DegreeWorks looks at your program holistically, and places each class using a “best fit” scenario. We've also programmed priorities that govern how certain classes will be used in your major. This process will not always be perfect, particularly when multiple possibilities exist. However, as you complete your requirements, it generally works out. If you are concerned about a class that does not appear in the area in which you wanted to use it, you may contact a counselor for assistance.

If you hover over any class number with your mouse, the titles and units for the class will display. If you click on any class, a pop-up window will open and additional details about the class including a description, required prerequisites, etc. Note: Current and future class section offerings listed in the pop-up window are subject to change without notice.

What-If Audit

Yes!  You can view your progress in any program of study offered at Mission or West Valley College by using the "What-If" function, which is located next to the Academic Audit tab.  The What-If function is a great way to explore majors before making an official change.

You need to schedule an appointment with a counselor in order to make any changes to your Educational Plan.
