Jack Lucas, ED.D.

Dr. Jack Lucas was elected to the West Valley - Mission Community College District Board of Trustees in 2002. Following five terms of service on the District's Board of Trustees, he was re-elected for a sixth term in 2022. He has served the Board in several different responsibilities that have included: (1) President of the Board for three terms; (2) Served on two Board Standing Committees, Legislation and Budget; (3) Chaired two Board President appointed Ad Hoc Committees; (4) Invited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) to serve on five visiting teams for four community colleges and one re-visit of a Community College District and; (5) Served on the CCLC's Advisory Committee on Education (ACES) for a full term.
His educational degrees include: Associate of Arts, Fullerton College; B.A. and M.A. Degrees, San Jose State University; Doctorate of Education, University of Oregon.
Prior to Dr. Lucas's joining the West Valley - Mission Board of Trustees, he served the City of Monte Sereno for five terms as a council member and for five terms as its Mayor. When term limits ended his municipal government career, he elected to run for the West Valley Mission CCD's Board of Trustees.
Dr. Lucas's professional background as a high school educator for 66 years has helped him, throughout his community college tenure, to navigate through many community college challenges. He has served the Los Gatos - Saratoga High School District as a teacher, athletic coach, Dean of Students, Vice Principal, Continuation High School Principal, and as a District Administrator of Special Projects and Programs. During his employment with the High School District, Dr. Lucas was invited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) to serve on ten continuation high school accreditation visiting teams and on one adult education team, San Quentin Prison. During Dr. Lucas's association with WASC, he was invited to co-author its Accrediting Evaluation Instruments, "Procedures for Appraising the Continuation High School", Forms A,B, and C.
During his present term, Dr. Lucas looks forward to working with his colleagues and with the District's staff on several issues that are ahead for the District. These challenges include: tuition free enrollment, on-campus student housing, keeping our constituents apprised of the advantages that are available through community college enrollment, raising enrollment data, and keeping the "Good Ship WVMCCD" afloat.
