Mission College, 49ers Ink Deal for Parking Lot Use

Come fall, 49ers fans will be able to park at Mission College to attend Sunday games at the new Levis Stadium, thanks to an agreement between the 49ers and Mission College. In return, the college will receive a portion of the parking proceeds.

Under the two-year contract recently approved by the West Valley-Mission Community College District Board of Trustees, the college will receive 70 percent of the net parking revenue. Assuming all parking spaces are used for each game, the contract could bring in $300,000 for the college each season.

That money, said Ed Maduli, WVMCCD vice chancellor of administrative services, will go into the parking lot fund to pay for upgrades to roadways and parking areas at the college, needed improvements that otherwise would have no funding. Projects also include such things as upgrading parking machines.

“This is a good deal for Mission College,” Maduli said. “There are a lot of good things that we’d like to do but haven’t been able to do. With this contract, that funding will be available.”

During the games, parking lots A, B, C and D will be available for 49ers fan parking, providing approximately 2,250 parking spaces that are within walking distance to the stadium, Maduli said. Although other lots around the area will offer game-day parking as well, Mission’s lots have the advantage of being the closest to the freeway and will also allow tailgating.

If all goes well during the initial contract period, Mission College will consider doing a longer-term agreement with the 49ers, Maduli said. Because there are no classes on Sundays, there should be little impact to the college community.
