WVMCCD Chancellor Stan Arterberry Receives CA Outstanding CEO Award
ACCCA, the Association for California Community College Administrators, has honored Stan Arterberry, Chancellor of the West Valley-Mission Community College District with the Harry Buttimer Distinguished Administrator Award. The ceremony took place Friday during the ACCCA annual conference, held in Costa Mesa, CA. Established in 1986, the Award is the organization's most coveted honor, and is named for the late Harry Buttimer, a founding member of ACCCA. Recipients are chosen for demonstrating the following qualities: Integrity, Principle, Compassion, Strength in leadership, Contributions to colleagues and the profession and Contributions to colleges and the community.
Dozens of California leaders wrote letters in support of Stan's nomination including: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, State Senator Elaine Alquist, Assembly members Jim Beall and John Laird, San Francisco 49ers president John York, San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce President Pat Dando, Silicon Valley Leadership Group CEO Carl Guardino, and California Community Colleges CEO Diane Woodruff.
For the past four decades Arterberry has worked in California Community Colleges beginning as a Sociiology/History faculty member at Riverside Community College. His career highlights include including Supertendent-President of West Hills Community College in Coalinga, President of Merritt College in Oakland, CEO at Solano Community College and Chancellor of West Valley-Mission Community College District.
Among his numerous professional activities: Member of the California Community Colleges CEO Board, President, Community College League of California Commission on Athletics, Former Chair, African Americans of California Community Colleges, and Board of Directors, Good Samaritan Hospital.
Attendees of the awards luncheon included the Chancellor's wife, Debra Blue, ten members of his family, and four members of the WVMCCD Board of Trustees: President Roberts Owens, Sr., Jack Lucas, Buck Polk, and Chris Stampolis.
