Notes on a Faculty
Bake Sale
From Pat Andrews
Thursday, March 24, 2005
West Valley and Mission Colleges faculty held a bake sale
this morning to raise money for basic supplies in short supply due to budget
cuts this year by the District administration. Faculty from various departments,
including Language Arts, Social Sciences, Biology, Astronomy, and Fine Arts,
staffed tables on campus to sell cookies, muffins, and other home-baked goods
to students, staff, and faculty. At West Valley College the Social Science and
Language Arts divisions combined to raise over $120. “This will allow me
to buy basic supplies like copier paper, pens, and board markers, all supplies
that are unavailable or rationed to us now,” said one instructor.
Through the bake sale, the faculty hoped also to publicize cutbacks and lack of adequate funding for basic supplies.

The bake sale outside the Mission Part Time Center earned
$100 on March 24. My husband and I have decided to donate a brand new (in the
box) Cannon ink jet printer so the money earned can be used for paper and
internet service (if needed), thereby stretching our funds. Has anyone ever donated an item to the
college to know what the correct procedure is? I would like to get a tax deduction receipt if possible for
the donation.
A big thank you to those who baked: Louise Lodato, Benjamin Mendlelsohn, Matt Philion, Donna Frankel and to those who brought: Donna Bernabie, Marge Throndson, Bruce who teaches Physics and Soc part time, and to all those who bought, and to those who worked at the table: Margaret Schieck, Humanshu Rath, Louise Lodato, Pat Andrews, and to those who helped clean up: Matt Philion and Louise Lodato.
